Hazel Grove

Hazel Grove is a London North Western Railway Type 4 signal box, dating from about 1877. It was refurbished in 2005 when it was also extended at the east end. It controls the junction of the Buxton line with the Hope Valley line, via Hazel Grove Chord, and the single line between the Hope Valley and Northenden Junction.
The box was first fitted with an OCS “One Control Switch” panel in 1978; that was replaced in 1986 when the Hazel Grove Chord opened, and in July 2012 it was replaced again, this time by the TEW SM48 version seen in this film. Although there are very few OCS panels remaining on the rail network, mostly on the Western Region, there is another further along the Hope Valley Line at Chinley.
