Keighley and Worth Valley Railway
The geographic location of the signal boxes can be seen on a current OS Map. The map will place Keighley Station at the centre of the map panel and other locations can then be selected by use of the Gazetteer or simply scrolling around. Roll the mouse over the icon(s) to reveal what they represent. Increase the scale using the scale selector on the left to separate closely positioned icons.
We present three films related to the signalling of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
The videos are intended for viewing at a maximum screen resolution of 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high. Please be aware that viewing at a larger size may result in a loss of clarity and a 'grainy' appearance.
Part 1: The Rise and Fall of Bingley Junction
Shipley Bingley Junction signal box was located at the northwest corner of Shipley station. This film shows the box on its last day in service in 1994, followed by its move to the KWVR where it has been installed at the end of Platform 3.
This is based on amateur film taken by others at the time. The KWVR are about to embark on a new signalling scheme at Keighley which we plan to document at various stages.
Part 2: Signalling on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway
In this film, Bruce MacDougall narrates a history of “Signalling on the KWVR” since preservation.
This film was first shown by the Friends of the KWVR in an extended format but has been edited for a wider audience.
Part 3: The KWVR and The Railway Children Film
FARSAP has been extremely fortunate to obtain permission from David Parker, Producer and Director of a film shown on BBC entitled “The Golden Age of Steam Railways”.
The film is copyright to “Available Light Production Ltd” (owned by David Parker) and includes short extracts from “The Railway Children” produced by EMI Film Production Ltd”.
It also includes an interview with Bruce MacDougall who planned and helped manager the transfer of Frizinghall signal box (near Bradford) to the Damems Loop. Damems Junction was built in 1970 after the Railway Children film increased passenger numbers such that two train working was required.
